A murder mystery, a disco dance contest, and a room full of suspects come together Saturday as the North American Cultural Laboratory and Bread Arts Collective bring back Murder on the Dance Floor: Disco Inferno, an interactive theater experience.
Audience members are encouraged to join a dance contest, enjoy classic disco music, and help determine who committed the fictional murder.
“It is a legitimate dance party,” said Brett Keyser of NACL.
The show combines a traditional murder mystery, in which multiple characters are suspects, with comedy and audience participation. Its script also includes references to life in Sullivan County.
Dancing is optional, and no special skills are required. Disco-inspired attire is encouraged but not mandatory, and those who prefer to watch are welcome.
Keyser said the production returns with revisions following its debut last year. Although most of the show remains the same, changes to the script have helped the creative team refine the performance.
The production is part of NACL’s “hybrid performance events,” or “Hypes,” which invite audiences to experience theater in ways that go beyond sitting and watching.
