Liberty, N.Y. — The boil water notice issued last week for the Ferndale Water District in the Town of Liberty has been lifted following laboratory testing that confirmed the water supply is safe to use.

Town officials say water samples collected within the Ferndale Water District on Tuesday, January 27, and Wednesday, January 28, showed satisfactory bacteriological quality. The samples were tested for total coliform bacteria, an indicator used to assess drinking water safety.

Based on those results, the boil water order first issued on Friday, January 23, has been formally rescinded, and residents may resume normal use of tap water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and other household needs.

The advisory had been put in place after a water main break and a transmission main failure at the Ferndale storage tank caused concerns about potential contamination. During that time, water was supplied to the Ferndale Water District from the Village of Liberty system while repairs were made.

Town officials thanked residents for their patience and cooperation while the issue was addressed and testing was completed.
