CALICOON, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is advising motorists of a full closure of the Callicoon Bridge (Interstate Bridge #7), which spans the Delaware River between Bridge Street in the hamlet of Callicoon, Sullivan County, and State Route 1016 in Damascus Township, Pennsylvania.

The closure is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, weather permitting, and could last up to 48 hours. If that date is not feasible for construction activity, backup dates are set for May 27 or May 28.

Officials say the temporary shutdown is needed to pour concrete on two newly constructed bridge spans as part of a $17.8 million rehabilitation project. The overall project is scheduled for completion in November 2027.

NYSDOT notes the bridge is expected to reopen within 24 hours after the concrete work is completed.

During the closure, pedestrian and bicycle access will remain open. Motorists, including commercial and freight traffic, are urged to follow posted detours and guidance from NYSDOT variable message signs, which will be activated one week in advance to alert travelers.

Officials also say the work is not expected to impact Memorial Day weekend travel.
