The East Branch Rest Area building along westbound State Route 17 in the Town of Hancock will close Tuesday, Oct. 13, as construction begins to rehabilitate the facility, the New York State Department of Transportation announced.

The parking lot will remain open throughout construction, and portable toilets will be available for travelers.

The facility is expected to reopen in summer 2027.

The state Department of Transportation and the New York State Office of General Services, which are partnering on the project, are urging motorists to use caution when entering and exiting the parking lot during construction.
