New York State Police have arrested an Ellenville woman who investigators say stole approximately $4,456 from Tops Friendly Market over several months.
The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Ellenville arrested Denah R. Stratton, 35, on Oct. 6. She was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a Class D felony, and first-degree falsifying business records, a Class E felony.
According to State Police, the investigation determined that Stratton, who was employed by Tops Friendly Market, stole the money from the business over the course of several months.
Stratton was processed at the State Police barracks in Ellenville. She was arraigned in Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part and released on her own recognizance.
She is scheduled to appear in Wawarsing Town Court on Oct. 9 at 9:30 a.m.
Tops said in a statement that the company is cooperating with investigators.
“We take these allegations seriously and are cooperating with the New York State Police in this matter,” the company said. “As this is an ongoing investigation, any questions should be directed to the New York State Police.”
