Highland Man Dies After Possible Drowning in Wawarsing

A 47-year-old Highland man died Monday after he was found in Vernooy Kill Creek in the Town of Wawarsing, NY, according to New York State Police.

Troopers assigned to State Police Ellenville responded to Lundy Road shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 for a report of a possible drowning.

Owen Garrison was found in the creek and extricated by members of the Napanoch Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. State Police have not released additional information about what led to Garrison being in the creek.

The Napanoch Fire Department, Ellenville Emergency Medical Services and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office assisted State Police at the scene.
