The Village of Margaretville is working with the New York State Department of Transportation on a study aimed at identifying ways to improve transportation connections across the Town of Middletown and surrounding communities.

The Margaretville Mobility Management Strategy is being developed through NYSDOT’s Thriving Communities program. The study area includes the villages of Margaretville and Fleischmanns, as well as the hamlets of Arkville, New Kingston and Halcottsville, spanning portions of Delaware, Greene and Ulster counties.

The study will examine transportation needs among both residents and visitors and consider whether a dedicated mobility manager could help coordinate transportation resources in the region.

It will also identify potential short-, mid- and long-term strategies to improve mobility and expand access to transportation options. According to the study’s project description, the goal is to develop practical and sustainable approaches that can support community connections, economic activity and quality of life.

Residents are being asked to complete an online survey about how transportation affects their ability to get to jobs, services, recreation and other destinations. The survey also asks for ideas about how mobility could be improved throughout the Town of Middletown and neighboring communities.

The federal Thriving Communities program provides technical assistance to communities working to address transportation and infrastructure challenges. NYSDOT received more than $1 million through the program to support Margaretville and four other New York communities.
