Radio Catskill is looking for an experienced, community-minded journalist to join our local news team as a part-time reporter, with a focus on local government and community news in Delaware County.
We’re a small, collaborative newsroom serving the Catskills and Northeast Pennsylvania, where local stories matter and public service journalism comes first. We’re looking for someone who brings curiosity, clarity, strong reporting skills, and a commitment to serving the community.
What You’ll Do
You’ll report on the people, institutions, and issues shaping communities across our region, with a primary focus on local government and accountability in Delaware County. You’ll attend meetings, develop sources, explain complex issues clearly, and produce timely, engaging journalism for both broadcast and digital platforms.
This is a part-time reporting role with a primary focus on local government, including government policies, budgets, decisions, and their impact on residents. Reporting in neighboring communities and on other local issues will be assigned as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Report and produce stories on local government, public policy, budgets, accountability, and community issues
- Cover local government meetings and develop original enterprise stories
- Develop and maintain a network of sources across local government and the community
- Write clear, engaging broadcast copy under deadline
- Produce spot news, features, and in-depth reporting for broadcast
- Conduct live and recorded interviews
- Contribute stories and multimedia content to the Radio Catskill website
- Assist with breaking news and special coverage as needed
- Participate in station events and fundraising efforts
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in public radio, broadcast journalism, or professional reporting
- Strong reporting, writing, interviewing, and audio production skills
- A demonstrated interest in local government and accountability journalism
- Ability to identify compelling local stories and pursue them independently
- Understanding of journalistic ethics, accuracy, fairness, and best practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small newsroom
- Comfort working on deadline and adapting to breaking news
- Familiarity with the Catskills and Delaware County is a plus
About the Role
This is a part-time position, 25 hours per week, at $22 per hour.
The position is based in our coverage area, with regular reporting assignments in Delaware County and occasional assignments in neighboring communities. Some evening or weekend work may be required for government meetings, breaking news, events, or special coverage.
