DEERPARK, N.Y. — A 76-year-old Warwick man died following a head-on collision Monday afternoon on State Routes 42 and 97 in the Town of Deerpark, New York State Police said.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2004 Honda driven by Patricia A. Desomma, 76, of Warwick, was traveling northwest when it crossed into the southeast lane for unknown reasons and struck a 2014 Ford head-on.

John J. Desomma, 76, who was riding in the front seat of the Honda, was extricated from the vehicle and received life-saving measures at the scene before being transported to Bon Secours Hospital. He later died from his injuries.

Patricia Desomma and the 36-year-old female driver of the Ford, who is from Sparrowbush, were also transported to Garnet Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. Monday.
