Sullivan County Seeks Republican Election Inspectors for November General Election

MONTICELLO, N.Y. — The Sullivan County Board of Elections is seeking registered Republican voters to serve as paid election inspectors for the Nov. 3 general election.

The board said it has enough Democratic inspectors but needs additional Republicans to staff polling places across the county. State law requires election sites to have a sufficient number of inspectors representing the major political parties.

“We have the necessary number of Democratic voters signed up – we need more Republicans in order to properly staff our 33 polling locations in November,” said Pamela Murran, the board’s Republican commissioner.

The board is specifically seeking Republican inspectors in Callicoon, Fallsburg, Fremont, Neversink, Thompson and Tusten.

Election inspectors help prepare polling places, set up voting equipment, sign in and process voters, close polling places, canvass and report results, and assist voters when requested, according to the board.

“Election inspectors are a vital part of the democratic process,” said Deanna Senyk, the board’s Democratic commissioner.

The county’s election inspector page says applicants must be U.S. citizens, Sullivan County residents and registered voters willing to work for either the Democratic or Republican party. Inspectors must be available from 5 a.m. until after polls close at 9 p.m. Election Day.

Inspectors are paid $300 for Election Day. The county also pays $40 for required training, which is offered in morning and afternoon sessions.

The Nov. 3 general election polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Sullivan County.

For questions or to sign up, contact the Sullivan County Board of Elections at 845-807-0400 or SCBOE@sullivanny.gov. The office is located at 100 North St. in Monticello.
