CALLICOON, N.Y. — Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon is set to reopen Tuesday after management said it resolved an outstanding electricity bill with NYSEG that temporarily shut down the Sullivan County resort.

According to Villa Roma management, the resort owed NYSEG approximately $400,000 for six months of electrical service. Management said the utility required the full balance to be paid before service could be restored.

“We wanted to pay them half last week and half on Monday. But they [NYSEG] wanted the entire payment,” Sandeep Wadhwa, chairman of Fay Hospitality Catskills LLC, which owns Villa Roma, told the Sullivan County Democrat last week. “We couldn’t pay the entire thing at once.”

The full amount due has now been cleared, according to a new statement from Villa Roma, and the resort is scheduled to resume operations Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The temporary closure affected hotel guests, timeshare owners and employees. Villa Roma previously apologized for the disruption and said its ownership and management teams were working directly with NYSEG to resolve the situation.

“We have addressed the electricity matter and are focused on getting Villa Roma fully operational again,” Wadhwa said in the latest statement. “Our priority is to welcome our guests, owners and employees back and continue the work we have underway across the resort.”

Wadhwa also said Fay Hospitality has invested more than $11 million in management operations, renovations and capital improvements since acquiring the resort.

Fay Hospitality Catskills LLC purchased Villa Roma in September 2024 for $20.7 million from longtime owners Marty Passante and Paul Carlucci, who had owned and operated the resort for 54 years.

The resort has 139 hotel rooms, 232 timeshare apartments, an 18-hole championship golf course, The Club at Villa Roma, a ski chalet and four outdoor pools, along with other recreational facilities.

With the electricity issue resolved, management says its focus is now on welcoming guests and timeshare owners back and continuing planned improvements at the resort.
