Wayne County to Celebrate Age-Friendly, Dementia-Friendly Designations

HONESDALE, Pa. — Wayne County residents are invited to a free community gathering Monday, Oct. 26, to celebrate the county’s designations as an Age-Friendly and Dementia-Friendly community.

The event will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Cooperage Project, 1030 Main St. in Honesdale. Organizers say the gathering will help residents understand what the designations mean and how the community can become more welcoming and supportive of people of all ages, including older adults and people living with dementia.

The program will begin with a welcome and event kickoff at 1 p.m., followed by a dementia information session from 1:30 to 2 p.m. The final hour will feature a social gathering with light refreshments.

Participants can learn practical ways to support people living with dementia and their care partners. They also will have an opportunity to become a Dementia Friend.

The event is open to older adults, caregivers, family members, friends, businesses, community organizations and anyone interested in helping make Wayne County more accessible and inclusive.

Organizers say the gathering also will provide an opportunity for community members to connect, learn how to get involved and celebrate the regional milestone.

There is no cost to attend, and registration is not required.
