The Community Advisory Board (CAB) at Radio Catskill is working to strengthen local coverage by gathering feedback from across our listening area and identifying gaps in community representation.
The CAB is designed to help public radio stations stay connected to the communities they serve and evaluate whether local coverage reflects public needs.
“We are the eyes and the ears of the community and several different communities,” said LJ Ruell, CAB Chair. He said current members come from a wide range of backgrounds, including educators, small business owners, parents of school-age children and senior citizens. “Each of those CAB members is reaching out in those specific communities and sort of listening to what their peers are saying.”
To encourage more direct involvement, the CAB is inviting listeners to an upcoming in-person meeting Thursday, May 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at La Cigogne, in Narrowsburg, NY, overlooking the Delaware River. Ruell said the gathering is intended to give community members a chance to meet in person, share concerns and learn how to participate.
The group meets about four to six times a year, gathering to compare notes on concerns and topics they are hearing locally. Members said they try to distill those conversations into ideas and feedback for the Board of Trustees and station staff.
