LIBERTY, N.Y. — Sullivan BOCES has received authorization from the New York State Education Department to begin the search for a new district superintendent following the retirement of Dr. Robert M. Dufour.
The approval came after the completion of a required organizational study conducted under Section 2201 of New York State Education Law. The law requires the state education commissioner to determine whether redistricting or reorganization is advisable before a district superintendent vacancy can be filled.
According to Sullivan BOCES, the study evaluated the organization’s current structure, service capacity, administrative functions and physical space. The assessment was conducted by White and Partners LLC and included input from internal and external stakeholders. The final report was submitted to the New York State Education Department by the June 30 deadline.
Following the review, Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa authorized Sullivan BOCES to proceed with the superintendent search.
Sullivan BOCES said the Board of Education expects the successful candidate to begin on or before Jan. 1, 2027.
The organization is working with Broome-Tioga BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Rebecca Stone to conduct a confidential search. Officials said the process will incorporate feedback from students, faculty, staff and component school districts that was gathered during the organizational study and operational analysis.
